Lead is highly toxic. Even so, it was used for many years in a variety of products that are found in and around our houses and office buildings. Lead has been phased out since the 1980s but it continues to linger in many areas and be a major problem. Older homes (those built before 1978) tend to have higher concentrations of lead.
